Alaska is both the easternmost and westernmost state in the United States.
Does that seem counterintuitive? Well here’s why:
The Aleutian Islands are part of Alaska and they cross the 180th meridian, which is the dividing line between the Eastern and Western hemispheres.
Because those islands cross that dividing line, technically Alaska is both the easternmost and westernmost state in the U.S.
