Can you solve this logic puzzle?

Three friends check into a hotel room that costs $30. They each contribute $10.

Later the hotel realizes that there’s a discount and the room only costs $25. The bellboy is sent to return the $5. He decides to keep $2 for himself and gives each friend $1 back.

Now each friend has paid $9 (total $27), and the bellboy has $2, which adds up to $29.

Where is the missing dollar?

There is no missing dollar.

The confusion comes from adding the $27 (total paid by friends) to the $2 kept by the bellboy.

Instead, think of it as $25 (room cost) + $2 (bellboy) + $3 (returned to friends) = $30.

The $27 already includes the bellboy’s $2 and the remaining $25 goes to the room cost.

Does the $27 that the friend’s paid include the bellboy’s $2? If so, why would you add them together?
