Can you solve this logic puzzle?

You are standing in a room with 3 light switches. Each switch controls one of three light bulbs in another room. You can’t see the light bulbs from where you are.

How can you determine which switch controls which bulb if you can only enter the room with the bulbs once.

Think you know the answer?

To see the answer to this logic puzzle, click to expand the accordion below.

  1. Turn on the first switch and leave it on for a few minutes.
  2. Turn off the first switch and turn on the second switch.
  3. Go into the room with the light bulbs.
  4. The bulb that is on is controlled by the second switch.
  5. Feel the other 2 bulbs.
  6. The bulb that is off, but warm is controlled by the first switch.
  7. The bulb that is off and cold is controlled by the third switch.

If you can identify 1 bulb by leaving it on after flipping the switch, then you’re left with only 2 bulbs.

From those 2 remaining bulbs, you can tell them apart by having one be warm after it was left on for a few minutes and the third bulb is attached to the switch that you never touched.
